Trends in Database Administration, the Cloud and how it’s Transforming the DBA
Databases keep getting bigger and bigger. Business applications that utilize ever-growing databases are expanding at an alarming rate. Today Database’s are on Public Clouds, Private Clouds, OnPrem, Offprem and even obtained through DBaaS. To stay competitive, businesses require additional functionality, and the technology needed to make that functionality possible keeps getting more complex. To make matters worse, the DBAs needed to keep it all running are hard to find and retain. Good DBA skills take years to acquire, and how the role of the DBA is transforming in ways that will take the DBA away from their traditional roots and responsibilities. How the DBA of the future will see its role expanding beyond the traditional barriers that have existed for years. We will also discuss a number of changes in technology that DBA should pay special attention too including the impact of major outages seen at AWS.
